Landscape Design

A good landscape design should incorporate elements of your family’s interests, compliment the architectural elements of your home, and provide your family with a real reason to be outdoors enhancing your everyday life.

Agriscaping Design Consultation

The initial consultation is an opportunity to meet you, your current landscape, and to go over your wish list, explore the realistic possibilities of creating an elegant edible landscape based on your budget and to have some fun creating your ideal scene in your landscape.

The fee for the initial consultation is $150 for a maximum of two hours. Many clients are sure to have a recording device available because this is more than just a walk in the park with me. As we walk around the yard I’m going to be making suggestions, identifying specific plant varieties, watering needs, and care instructions to take your yard from where ever it currently is… to exactly where you want it to be, and beyond. I certainly respect that this economy is bringing out the gardener in all of us, and I certainly respect that and would love to support you in doing as much as you would like to do on your own.

Some have wondered, “Why do you charge when others do free consultations?”

First off, I really love it when clients jump in and get their hands dirty! And I know for a fact that one of the most time-consuming things in gardening is figuring out exactly what to do out there in the yard… So, I charge for my initial time because I’m going to give you EXACTLY what you need to do to optimize the health, beauty, and productivity of your yard the first time we meet. What I’ll share with you in our consultation you can’t find in a book, unless someone wrote a book about YOUR yard. So, be sure to have your note-pad and a recorder handy when I get there.

Second, which really dove-tails well with the first, is that I believe in providing professional, ethical and honest landscape design and consultation service to my clients. That old, “free consultation” tactic used by many old-school landscape designers and contractors was a way to GUILT you into working with them. I’m not a fan of such fear-tactics. I actually LOVE what I do, and I love the people I’m able to serve. So, when you and I meet, I’d like to fill our time with bringing your landscaping dreams into reality and empowering you with understanding, respect, and a good bit of joy.

Typical Design Fees…

Full designs begin at $1,800 and include the full design, care instructions, and a Full Annual planting and harvesting calendar based on what YOU would enjoy eating from your yard. (don’t worry, we’ll design it in such a way that it won’t take any more effort you are already doing to get your fresh produce, without all the negative side affects!)

The reality is, each yard is different. Each client is different. For example, picture a whole yard designed with just grass, a 4×8 foot raised planting bed, and one fruit tree.

Simple right? Of course. That’s a very simple design that you’ll likely get for free… cause I’ll do it for you on the spot when I come over for our initial consultation.

Now, on the flip side, imagine a yard filled with lush, green edible foliage, placed perfectly in the yard to maximize health and productivity based on annual sun-paths, watering needs, microclimates, and utilizes both rainwater-harvesting and an integrated grey-water system to supply each and every plant with the water they need, automatically. Imagine a back-yard with a large stone-lined natural pool that uses a complex system of beautiful water falls and lush plant-life that actually cleans the pool by filtering the water through the root-systems of these specialized plants like a glacier-fed lake, rather than through toxic chemicals. Imagine a yard with a serine hidden getaway nestled behind a beautifully designed wood-shop with an elegant spiral-stairway to it’s organic roof-top garden complete with automated watering systems and organized in such a way to make harvesting simple and fun. Imagine that in that same yard, just a few feet from your back door, there is a beautiful gazebo perfect for outdoor eating whose pillars are graced, each with a mature vine that weaves effortlessly through the trellised rafters filled with clusters of your favorite vine-growing fruit.

That Design is a bit more complicated, right? You bet! And, obviously the price is considerably more for that yard. The point is, we’ll arrive at the fee together so we can create a design that is aligned with your vision and your budget.

A deposit is required at signing of agreement, with the balance due either at different phase completions or upon full completion of concept design

We have a host of local organic growers and acres of nursery stock from our friends at Harper’s Nursery in Scottsdale and Summer Winds in Phoenix to assist in all your planting.
